Orchestration: 3 flutes (3rd doubling piccolo); 3 oboes (3rd doubling English horn); 3 Bb clarinets; 2 bassoons; 1 contrabassoon; 4 horns; 3 trumpets; 3 trombones; 1 tuba; percussion (2 players): clash cymbal, suspended cymbal, snare drum, bell tree, triangle, ratchet, bass drum, vibraphone, lion's roar; timpani; 2 harps; strings.

Dedicated to Eduardo Mata, who premiered Sargon's "Symphony No. 1- Holocaust" with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. "Icarus" was premiered in October of 2001 by the Meadows Symphony Orchestra, Dr. Paul Phillips, conductor, at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
