Orchestration: 3 flutes (3rd doubling piccolo and alto flute); 3 oboes (3rd doubling English horn); 3 clarinets in Bb (3rd doubling bass clarinet in Bb, clarinet in Eb); 2 bassoons; 1 contrabassoon; 4 horns; 3 trumpets in C; 2 trombones; 1 bass trombone; tuba; timpani; percussion (3 players): bass drum, snare drum, xylophone, vibraphone, ratchet, high and low tom-tom, tam-tam, harp; piano/celesta; strings.
Premiered by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Andrew Litton, conductor, in 1999. In January of 2007, Tapestries was recorded by the Northwest German Philharmonic, Israel Yinon, conductor, for broadcast in the European Union.
