Before the Ark (1987)
Violin/piano. A mystical, otherworldly piece beginning and ending with a motive evoking traditional Jewish prayer chant. The music gradually gathers strength, becoming increasingly emotional and expansive. As the piece concludes, the worshipper’s ecstasy fades and the earthly world returns.
Chagall Windows (2004)
Orchestra. Six movement-work inspired by Marc Chagall's stained glass windows in the chapel of Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel. Each movement captures the essence of the blessing Jacob gives to six of his twelve sons, as related in the Old Testament.
Fantasy on "The Miller's Tears" (Dem Milner's Trern) (2007)
Clarinet/cello/piano. Variations on a famous melody by Warshavsky, the well-known Jewish composer of the 19th century. The piece includes Klezmer elements, as well as an evocation of the Shoah (Holocaust).

KlezMuzik (1995)
A piece in the Klezmer style for clarinet and piano. This work has entered the chamber music repertoire and been performed nationally and internationally to popular acclaim. Recorded on the CD Shema (Gasparo, 318) and Jewish Friends and Neighbors (ACM, 11280).
My Beloved Is Mine- Music for a Jewish Wedding (2001)
Brass quintet (2 trumpets/horn/2 trombones). In three parts: a Prologue consisting of settings of six Israeli love songs (14"); an original Processional (4"); and a Recessional of one Hasidic and one folk song (3"). An ideal alternative to organ or Klezmer ensemble. A beautiful and meaningful choice which lends a contemporary Israeli flavor to the ceremony.
Reb Mendele (1991) (Violin/piano)

The name of the Suite is derived from the name of the composer's maternal grandfather, Menachem Mendel, who came to New York from Russia with the great waves of Jewish migration in the 1880’s. In this work, Sargon evokes aspects of the world of East European Jewry with all of its piety, its celebrations, its warmth and closeness. The main melodic idea in the last movement is taken from a source book of authentic Russian-Jewish folk tunes.

Horn quartet. A setting of the traditional Chanukah song, Rock of Ages (Maoz Tzur). This piece will give variety to a vocal program of Chanukah or holiday music.

Tapestries- Four scenes from Saul, King of Israel (1997)
Orchestra. Four movements adapted from Sargon's original opera, Saul, King of Israel. This work highlights four pivotal moments from the opera. In "Saul Among the Prophets," Saul joins the wild, frenzied dance of a group of prophets and his character is transformed. "Sanctuary" evokes the holiness of the High Priest and his followers. "The Oath" is an expression of the love between David and Jonathan. "The Supreme Command" depicts Saul's final battle and his defeat and death alongside his sons.
