Simon Sargon :: Choral Works :: Chorus with solo voice(s) and orchestra or chamber ensemble
B'Kol Shofar ("With the Voice of the Shofar") (1992)
Soprano solo/SATB/brass quintet (2 trumpets; 1 horn; 2 trombones)/organ. The title indicates the brass accompaniment of these three psalms. A dramatic and substantial setting in which the many colors and full sound of the organ is contrasted in sonority with the power of the brass quintet.

Our price: $10.00

Hallel - 2000 (1997)
SATB/brass quintet (2 trumpets; 1 horn; 2 trombones)/timpani/piano. A setting of the four "Hallel" psalms (Psalms 114-118), recited on the Jewish festivals. Here treated in a grander fashion to mark the beginning of a new millennium.

The Search Unending (2000)
Treble (Isaac); Baritone (heavenly voice); Bass (Abraham); Narrator (tenor)/SATB/orchestra. A dramatic musical retelling of the Biblical story of The Binding of Isaac (Genesis XXII 1-18) with choral interlude texts by the composer. The narrator sings the actual Biblical text, which is so brief and laconic. The chorus is used to give the subtext-- the composer's fleshing out of the strong emotions underlying the factual Biblical account. Commissioned by Susquehanna University for its Jewish-Christian Dialogue Conference.
